Terracotta pots are really affordable and so easy to paint. Paint them in plain colours to match your house, or have fun painting dots for a little bit of ‘retro’ appeal.

How to:

1. Start with plain terracotta pots, make sure they’re clean and dry. Apply one coat of water based undercoat sealer – you can find this at your local paint shop or hardware store.

2. When the undercoat sealer is dry, then apply adhesive dots randomly around the pot. These are available at newsagents and craft stores.

3. Paint the pots all over with your favourite colour. I used waterbased acrylic paints suitable for interior/exterior use. This colour is called ‘Detroit’ from Dulux. Wait until it’s dry then peel off the dots to reveal the spots!

Care:
To protect the pots, it’s a good idea to apply one to two coats of clear varnish. I like to use Cabots Crystal Clear Varnish.

QT quick tip ....

Sealing the inside of the pot will help to prevent your plants from drying out. There are many pot sealers available. I use one called Terra-Tite from Boncote. This is available from most hardware stores.
